In researching Ashford’s paintings across the country, we came upon an article in the Des Moines Register newspaper dated November 4, 1935. It mentions that Mrs. R.R. Peters, past president of the Women’s Club, donated a picture of herself painted by Ashford some years earlier. The organization still exists today and we emailed them to see if they knew anything about Mrs. Peters or the painting. The painting is still hanging above a fireplace in a prominent meeting room for the club. They snapped a picture of it and sent it to us. Size and exact year appears to be 1916.
