In researching Ashford’s paintings across the country, we came upon an article in the Des Moines Register newspaper dated November 4, 1935. It mentions that Mrs. R.R. Peters, past president of the Women’s Club, donated a picture of herself painted by Ashford some years earlier. Mrs. Peters was President of the Des Moines Women’s Club from 1896-1897 and gave the painting to the club in 1935.The organization still exists today and we emailed them to see if they knew anything about Mrs. Peters or the painting. The painting is still hanging above a fireplace in a prominent meeting room for the club. They snapped a picture of it and sent it to us. Size is 35 x 28 inches and the exact year is 1916.
