Frank Clifford Ashford was an American portrait painter who traveled the world and the U.S. painting portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. He was born in Perry, IA but came to South Dakota and lived in the Aberdeen area from time to time until his death here in 1960. Very little is known about this prolific, nearly forgotten artist. Subsequently, this site is dedicated to locating, cataloging, and preserving his life’s work. We have dozens of images here, and we add to it frequently. Many people, including Frank’s family members, have been very helpful in providing information and images for us to use here. We thank them immensely. If you own a Frank Ashford painting, contact us, we’d love to add it to our online gallery. — Troy McQuillen
