This was a startling find. Google picked it up from an aggregation site and with no visible text associated with it among a grid of 40-50 images. It says it’s from an old eBay auction. There was a yard stick in the photo indicating that this painting is 36″ long, probably 28″ inches tall. It is marked F. C. Ashford. Compare it to this painting done by Ashford of the same room, probably the same model. It is presumably his New York studio and is dated 1923. The quality of the painting looks poor, and this low resolution picture doesn’t do it justice. This was one of the 11 paintings on a manifest for the art collection at the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton. It was still at the center in 1990, but disappeared some time after that. It was sold on eBay at some point. We have no idea where it’s at. If you know, please contact us.
