As luck would have it, the owner of this painting found this website, and in perusing the paintings, discovered a similar Ashford painting that we titled, Square River Scene. We surmised that this squarish one must be from Oregon because of the large hills in the background, but we learned the trees are not from the Oregon area. Fortunately, this painting has a distinct plaque indicating it as, Along the Jim, which is a river near the Ashford farm in Brown County, South Dakota. Another painting recently dontated to the local museum features a similar scene. Lone Fisherman Along a River features the same trees and a boat like the one above. This painting is shared from the private collection of the third generation owner, for which we are grateful. The canvas measures 16″ x 12″.
